Ry Cooder, Sharon White, Ricky Skaggs

Vancouver, BC
The Vogue Theatre

Paul Mercs Concerts is pleased to announce Cooder • White • Skaggs in concert at the Vogue Theatre. In a most exceptional pairing, master multi-instrumentalists Ry Cooder and Ricky Skaggs come alive on stage to deliver a revelatory program of blues, gospel, and bluegrass. They are joined by Sharon White, one of the purest voices in Country music, Joachim Cooder on drums, and Mark Fain on bass with occasional guest performances by Cheryl White and Buck White.

Ry Cooder’s stock-in-trade is the guitar. He sometimes plays mandolin and has been known to occasionally handle the bajo sexton and tres. Cooder likes to play blues, gospel, country and western music, a calypso tune or two and cowboy ballads. He has written film scores, produces recordings of an elderly group of Cubans and has hung out with Gabby Pahinui. Cooder hired Don Tosti to voice an alien and made a record about a cat that lived in a suitcase. He owns an ice cream truck that was displayed at the Petersen Automotive Museum and he has also adopted an owl. These days, Ry and his son Joachim have taken to playing with Ricky Skaggs, Sharon White, Buck White and Mark Fain. He sure hopes to see you at one of their shows this year.

Sharon White is a member of beloved country-gospel family band, The Whites, and has been making music alongside her father Buck and sister Cheryl for more than four decades. They originally began as a Bluegrass group, but the family trio became well known for their string of Country hits in the 1980s, including “Hangin’ Around,” “Give Me Back That Old Familiar Feeling,” and “Pins and Needles.” The Whites are Grand Ole Opry members and combine a respect for – and mastery of – traditional country and bluegrass with a refreshing style in each of their performances. They were involved in the 2001 hit movie and soundtrack, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, and have gone on to win multiple awards, including GRAMMY®, CMA and Dove Awards, among others.

Ricky Scaggs, with twelve #1 hit singles, fourteen GRAMMY® Awards, eleven IBMA Awards, nine ACM Awards and eight CMA Awards (including Entertainer of the Year), is truly a pioneer of Bluegrass and Country music. Since he began playing music more than 50 years ago, Skaggs has released more than 30 albums and has performed thousands of live shows. Skaggs and his band, Kentucky Thunder, continue to keep the tour trail red hot, performing more than 80 live dates each year. He started his own record label, Skaggs Records, in 1997 and has since released 12 consecutive GRAMMY®- nominated albums. And the Grand Ole Opry member released his first-ever autobiography, “Kentucky Traveler.” The book details the life and times of Skaggs and provides a descriptive history of Country and Bluegrass music, as told by the master himself.

Vancouver, BC, July 13, 2015 – Paul Mercs Concerts is pleased to announce the above Canadian tour dates of the iconic rock band, Godsmack! This leg of their North American tour features a long anticipated reunion with Sevendust and, to round out this showcase of extreme talent, The Motorleague.

Following a completely stacked spring and summer schedule which included rapturous main stage stops at Rock On The Range, Welcome to Rockville, and more, the Grammy Award-nominated multi-platinum Boston hard rock juggernaut will hit the road again beginning September 19 at The Shindig Festival in Baltimore, MD, performing in major markets across the States, before concluding October 19 at TD Place in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. The boys are out on the road supporting their chart-topping and critically acclaimed 2014 offering, 1000hp [Republic Records], out everywhere now.

The run includes Sevendust who have a long history within the rock community. Both bands have grown since their early days but are joining forces for some historic dates.

On the not to be missed shows Sully Erna comments “I haven’t been this excited about a tour like Godsmack/Sevendust since we toured with Metallica. This is how concerts should be, two bands that love and complement each other the way fans want it! This will be a MUST SEE concert! Don’t Miss it!

Clint Lowery of Sevendust notes, “We have a lot of history with Godsmack personally and musically and it’s going to be an incredible experience touring with them. We came up together on the music scene and it will be an honor to share the stage with them again and give fans their money’s worth. I can’t think of a better way or a better band to start this touring cycle with. Get ready!!”

Godsmack continues to receive critical acclaim for their powerhouse performances. Phoenix New Times recently wrote, “Godsmack’s sound was much more impressive as there was a louder more resonant feel to the music at this point that packed more of a punch,” The Reading Eagle wrote that they, “pounded through downtuned crunch anchored by a steady backbeat. Sully’s clear vocals cut through it all,” and The Oakland Press said, “The return and the presence of new music clearly energized the group and powered a 14-song, 90-minute show that put a satisfying cap on Uproar.” ARTISTdirect.com put it best claiming, “In light of his recent statements declaring rock music dead, it’s clear that Gene Simmons hasn’t seen GODSMACK live this summer. The Boston quartet’s headlining set packed in enough hits, distortion, fire, and bravado to singlehandedly shoot down any and all feelings that said genre’s funeral has come and gone.”

To date, GODSMACK have notched a staggering now seven number one singles on both the Billboard Mainstream  & Active Rock Chart, including “Awake”, “Straight Out of Line”, “Cryin’ Like A Bitch”, and “I Stand Alone”. Moreover, they’ve enjoyed 21 Top 10 hits at the format—the most of any act since February 1999 as well as four Grammy nominations, and winner of Billboard Music Awards Rock Artist of the Year in 2001.  Selling over 20 million records worldwide, the band has also unleashed three consecutive albums at #1 on the Billboard Top 200—namely Faceless [2003], IV [2006], and The Oracle[2010]. This places them in league with Van Halen, U2, Metallica, Dave Matthews Band, and Linkin Park who have also enjoyed the same streak. Moreover, the accomplishment on the road remains staggering with headlining sets everywhere from Mayhem and UPROAR to Rock on the Range.

Vancouver, BC, Sept 21, 2015 — Following a string of successful family shows in both Canada and the U.S., Paul Mercs Concerts is pleased to present the following Canadian concert dates for legendary children’s entertainer Raffi:

Raffi is a singer, songwriter, producer, author, lecturer, and tireless advocate for children. He is best known for his work as a children’s entertainer whose string of gold and platinum-selling recordings in North America includes his classic song, “Baby Beluga”. Once called “the most popular children’s singer in the English-speaking world” (Washington Post) and “Canada’s all time children’s champion” (Toronto Star), Raffi is also a recipient of the Order of Canada and the United Nations’ Earth Achievement Award. He has never advertised to children or made any commercial endorsements aimed at kids. His commitment to treating his young fans with respect changed society’s outlook on music made for children.

“It’s fun to be singing for children and families again,” says Raffi. “As well as singing many of my fans’ favorites, I look forward to sharing a song or two from my new album, Love Bug.

In 2010, Raffi founded The Centre for Child Honouring on Salt Spring Island, BC. With the motto “Respecting Earth & Child,” the Centre is at the heart of a global movement that views honouring children as the best way to create sustainable, peacemaking societies.

Recently, Raffi published a book for adults, Lightweb Darkweb, about the critical need to reform social media, especially for young users. As well, he co-founded the Red Hood Project, a grassroots movement for consumer protection for young users.

In July 2014, Rounder Records released Love Bug – Raffi’s first new kids’ album in 12 years. A collection of 16 songs, this thoughtfully crafted body of work engages children in a broad range of themes including love, nature, playtime, chores, and teamwork – music to charm the whole family!

ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS – The Musical!   For the first time ever, Alvin & The Chipmunks will hit the road on tour.

Produced by Iconic Entertainment Studios, Alvin & The Chipmunks The Musical is an interactive experience featuring world-class production, music, special effects, and immersive interactivity to encourage audience participation.  Expect a pop concert and theater event show in one.

The story of Alvin The Musical begins when Ian, an evil record company executive, gets back into business. He has a scam set to use Alvin & The Chipmunks in a scheme to put on a benefit concert to save the original site of the legendary Woodstock, but the only one who is going to benefit is Ian. To prep for the concert, Ian sends the Chipmunks and the Chipettes on a cross-country warm-up tour. They stop to play shows in Nashville, Chicago and Las Vegas – but at each stop things never go quite as planned as Alvin manages to create some of his typical chaos.  The benefit concert, Chipstock, is a huge success and foils Ian’s scam – allowing the proceeds to save Woodstock! After the long journey, the Chipmunks make it home to celebrate with a giant pillow fight, inviting the audience to join.
The concert-filled show will feature the Chipmunks and the Chipettes performing classics, original songs, and pop hits – including music by One Direction, Maroon 5, Christina Aguilera, Elvis Presley and more.  One audience member will be invited to join the band and play drums for a song.  The show’s world-class team includes TONY winning Lion King costume designer Michael Curry, and the production team that won Billboard Touring Creative Content award for its show Yo Gabba Gabba.

Vancouver, BC, May 4, 2015 – Paul Mercs Concerts is thrilled to announce the Hamilton and Vancouver dates of the all-new live show MythBusters Jamie & Adam UNLEASHED!, starring Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, co-hosts of the Emmy-nominated Discovery series “MythBusters”.

MythBusters Jamie & Adam UNLEASHED! presents a fantastical evening of on-stage experiments, audience participation, exciting videos, and behind-the-scenes stories.   With this show, fans join Jamie and Adam onstage to assist in their mind-blowing and mind-twisting approaches to science. MythBusters Jamie & Adam UNLEASHED! brings you face-to-face with the curious world of Jamie and Adam as the duo matches wits on stage with each other and members of the audience. Jamie Hyneman has announced that he will end touring with the live show this year.

Since 2012, Jamie and Adam have toured North America, Australia and New Zealand with their live show.  To date, they have performed in 108 cities, given 119 performances, over 200,000 people have seen them onstage and the tour has grossed over $12 million. This fall, the tour will perform 31 dates across the US and Canada.

One of the most highly regarded and watched series on the Discovery Channel, “MythBusters” is now in its thirteenth season. Co-hosted by Hyneman and Savage, the show mixes scientific method with gleeful curiosity and plain old-fashioned ingenuity to create its own signature style of explosive experimentation – and the supporting or de-bunking of urban myths that we live with day to day.

Jamie and Adam have become spokespersons at large for applying science to real life – most recently as hosts of the Discovery Channel special “iGenius: How Steve Jobs Changed the World,” and have appeared on numerous shows including “Late Show with David Letterman,” “Good Morning America,” “The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” “The Colbert Report,” NPR’s “All Things Considered” and “Morning Edition,” “Countdown with Keith Olberman,” and many more. They were invited to participate in Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s Rally to Restore Fear And/Or Sanity and have received the Young Artist Award for inspiring young people in the interest of science. The MythBusters have been invited to participate on a panel at Comic-Con, where their appearances have sold-out four years running.

Jamie and Adam serve as guest editors for Popular Mechanics and were featured on the cover of the September 2009 issue. That same year, they were inducted as honorary members into Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society. They are Honorary Lifetime Members of the California Science Teachers Association and were named Honorary Engineers and Honorary Members of the Francis Crowe Society at the University of Maine. Both Hyneman and Savage were given honorary Doctorates at the University of Twente in the Netherlands for their efforts at popularization of science.

Jamie and Adam produced and starred in an H1N1 Public Service Announcement for the White House, and were chosen by the President to retest the Archimedes legend using 500 schoolchildren as surrogate soldiers.

They appeared as themselves in the movie Darwin Awards and have made several cameos on other TV shows, including CSI. And In 2010, Hyneman and Savage received the Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award in Cultural Humanism from the Harvard Secular Society.

About Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage

Jamie Hyneman is the owner of M5 Industries, an effects company specializing in problematic custom builds. Besides serving as headquarters of “MythBusters,” M5 continues to work on various research & development projects for private clients.

After trying his hand at careers as various as librarian at the United Nations in Geneva to running a diving and sailing charter business in the Caribbean, Hyneman began his career in show business as special effects shop assistant in New York and later in San Francisco as a crew member on films including “Robocop,” “Arachnophobia” and “Naked Lunch.”

While managing Colossal Pictures’ model shop in San Francisco, Hyneman was given the opportunity to take over – and M5 Industries was born.

Hyneman graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Russian. He has received an honorary engineering degree from the University of Maine as well as an honorary doctorate of engineering from Villanova University, with whom he has an ongoing collaborative relationship to help develop new safety concepts for the military. He is the holder of several patents and the winner of numerous industry awards.

Hyneman currently resides the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife.

Adam Savage received a call from Jamie Hyneman in 2002 to participate in a demo for a TV show, which turned into the wildly popular Discovery Channel & SBS series “MythBusters.”

Savage immersed himself in the NYC arts scene before moving to San Francisco in 1990 to parlay his skills into the thriving theater scene. There he worked for dozens of companies as set designer, prop master, art director and producer before falling into the machine art community where he learned welding, pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics and robot-building.

After exhibiting his work in over 50 art shows nationwide, Savage caught the eye of the special effects industry and began working as a prop builder and art director for major commercials for Sega, Coca-Cola, Nike, Burger King and Chevrolet. His work on a Coca-Cola commercial earned him a Clio Award nomination.

After a 18-month stint as head of research & development for startup toy company ZOOB, Savage joined George Lucas’ Industrial Light and Magic, where he worked on “Star Wars: Episodes 1 and 2,” “Galaxy Quest,” “Space Cowboys,” “A.I.,” “Terminator 3,” “The Mummy,” and dozens of commercials. During this time he also worked as model-shop supervisor for the two “Matrix” sequels as well as taught at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco.

Savage continues to dabble in his multiple hobbies, including passionately restoring his vintage four-wheel drive vehicle and accruing new pieces for his movie prop collection. He currently lives in San Francisco with his wife, twin boys and two dogs.

Vancouver, BC, September 14, 2015 — Paul Mercs Concerts is pleased to present the following concert dates for 2CELLOS:

2Cellos_1200 x 628

Young Croatian cellists Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, together known as 2CELLOS, have achieved sensational success by taking the cello to a new level. Their playing style has broken down the boundaries between different genres of music, from classical and film music to pop and rock. 2CELLOS have no limits when it comes to performing live and are equally as impressive when playing Bach and Vivaldi as they are when rocking out AC/DC.

2CELLOS rose to fame in 2011 when their version of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” took the world by storm. The YouTube video became a massive viral sensation leading to a record deal with Sony Masterworks and an invitation to join Sir Elton John on his worldwide tour.
Aside from their huge online following where they continue to amaze with new YouTube hits, 2CELLOS main focus has always been playing live. In addition to many sold out solo tours (US, Japan, Europe) the duo have also appeared on major TV shows such as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Ellen DeGeneres Show (multiple times), ABC’s The Bachelor and many others. 2CELLOS were also the first instrumental act to ever perform on the hugely popular TV series GLEE, where they appeared as special guests in the Michael Jackson tribute episode, performing “Smooth Criminal”. The 2CELLOS’ arrangement of the song, which featured Naya Rivera, debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Digital Songs Chart and landed the 2CELLOS’ debut album in the Top 100.

Together with the Chinese classical superstar pianist Lang Lang, they appeared at the CCTV New Year’s Gala for more than 1 billion viewers. Performing with Sir Elton John on his tour, they have traveled around the globe several times playing with him and opening the shows in massive stadiums and appearing at prestigious venues and events such as Madison Square Garden, Paris Olympia, Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and the Emmys in L.A.

Earlier this year, 2CELLOS released a new music video for their unique version of AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck.” Created with the look and feel of the Baroque era, the video finds the guys in a formal concert setting. What begins with a classical cello performance quickly turns into a high-octane, head-banging rendition of “Thunderstruck.” The audience is stunned! Check it out here. Their rendition of “Thunderstruck” is available for purchase as an audio track at all digital service providers.

They have also released two albums – 2CELLOS and IN2ITION – which are available on Sony Music Masterworks. IN2ITION, their second album, was produced by the legendary Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Deep Purple) and features an eclectic group of vocal and instrumental guests including Elton John, Steve Vai, Lang Lang, Naya Rivera and Zucherro.

2CELLOS create a new dimension with CELLOVERSE ALBUM available now. NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR “SHAPE OF MY HEART”

“…Go and see them live, because it really is astonishing! I can’t remember seeing anything as exciting as them since I saw Jimi Hendrix live back in the 60’s…”

Vancouver, BC, May 25, 2015 – Paul Mercs Concerts is thrilled to announce the Canadian 2016 tour of the internationally-acclaimed Beatles concert, RAIN: A Tribute to The Beatles! Loved by their Canadian fans, this tour is like a home-coming for the globally successful group.

Rain got its start playing the Reno area until they crossed the country for a successful run on Broadway as well as successful engagements all across the US! As “the next best thing to seeing The Beatles!” (Associated Press), RAIN performs the full range of The Beatles’ discography live onstage, including the most complex and challenging songs that The Beatles themselves recorded in the studio but never performed for an audience. In addition to the updated sets that include brand new LED, High-Definition screens and multimedia content, new songs have also been included with the launch of the 2016 Tour.

Together longer than The Beatles, RAIN has mastered every song, gesture and nuance of the legendary foursome, delivering a totally live, note-for-note performance that’s as infectious as it is transporting. From the early hits to later classics (“I Want To Hold Your Hand,” “Hard Day’s Night,” “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” “Let It Be,” “Come Together,” “Hey Jude” and more), this adoring tribute will take you back to a time when all you needed was love, and a little help from your friends!
